Pre-Forum Workshops Contribute Strategies to the CU Blueprint for Growth and Development

 The Pre-Forum Workshops on September 9 to 11 in Nepal concluded with recommendations as inputs to the strategic plan of ACCU for 2014 – 2017 - Blueprint for Credit Union Growth and Development.

Attended by 20 CEOs, the workshop recommended developing a tool for governance diagnosis in recognition of the nature and challenges of governance of a credit union network. The workshop exemplifi ed the need for an excellent and strong governance to achieve sustainable performance. Développement international Desjardins (DID) technical team Sylvain Barette and Serge Gosselin facilitated the CEOs workshop on the theme Governance and Performance.

The 37 attendees of HRD Workshop on the supervision of credit unions recommended ACCU to organize training program on Enterprise Risk Management, improve the tool on credit union supervision and train supervisors on Risk Based Supervision. Australia’s WAW Credit Union CEO Peter Challis, Canada’sNorthern Savings Credit Union’s President and CEO Ken Doleman and NATCCO’s Training and Consultancy Group Head and ALMI member Daisybelle Cabal facilitated the HRD. 
 
Meanwhile, 18 women and youth enumerated range of strategies to increase their participation in both membership and leadership of credit unions. WAW Credit Union Directors Mark Dixen and Diane MacGrath facilitated the HRD and Youth/ Women workshop.
 
The recommendations are considered critical inputs in crafting the direction of the credit union movement in Asia. The workshops are part of the planning exercise that enables ACCU to pay attention to the real issues and seeks opinions of leaders and professionals on what work for them. “We are very grateful to those attending the workshops as they are part of crafting the direction of credit unions in Asia,” said ACCU CEO Ranjith Hettiarachchi. The 21 Credit Union Business solutions can be claimed as the result of these consultation workshops.
